Monetising

STOP! I've spent faar too long looking at this and need to do everything else, i can find the perfect product later once ive got the traffic! Here's what ive found:

1. Clickbank - bit rubbish, cos i wouldnt buy any of these products (great barometer) and the stats arent that great either, check em out:

$/sale: $21.17 | Future $: - | Total $/sale: $21.17 | %/sale: 50.0% | %refd: 82.0% | grav: 21.51

2. Found some good products that did grab me but they are American, there's USA tax stuff i dont know about
*PLEASE comment and share with me any USA tax/affiliate knowledge u may have!*

These included:
http://www.kikogolf.com/affiliate/affsignup.php and possibly http://www.golftrainingproducts.co.uk/golf-affiliate-application.shtml

3. So, I found http://www.golfballs.co.uk/affiliates.aspx on Buy.At and 2Fore1 on Affiliate Window, but i dont have website yet do i so im not gonna get accepted on those programs until i do!!

4. Adsense

5. Kelkoo shopping comparison via Tradedoubler

So, I'll integrate these later, once i have a site... and some traffic, 1dt things 1st Mikey!

Dig down in to Keywords to uncover GEMS

OK! So, "golf club sets" is too broad. Using Google Related we get offered a couple more suggestions. "affinity golf club sets" looks like a brand name, so lets see how many exact matches there are for that term in Google UK... ZERO! hehe...

Unfortunately, search volume is pitiful, with <300 searches a month. Might be worth spinning an article and blog post using the retailers text just cos there is no competition but im thinking dont waste too much time on it cos its not gonna buy me that Whistler Ski Lodge i want...

NEXT!

"dunlop golf club sets" fares better, only 3 competing sites and much higher search volume at 1600 and 800 for the singular "dunlop golf club set". There are 2 intitle:'s, so thats looking great! HOWVER, this is UK only search. If i chose to search the whole web, there's 101 competitor sites and STRANGLEY 1000 intitle:'s... can someone comment on this pls to alleviate my aching nogin!?

"graphite golf club sets" has 1 UK competitor page, 1000-1600 searches per month and no intitle: competition! Great! But it gets me thinking... how to monetise? There are Adwords ads down the side of the results so its profitable niche, i could just run adsense and get something but ive never been that in to Adsense, always preferred affiliate programs! I should find a good golf affiliate offer and perhaps a good golf clickbank product and find golf keywords relevent for them cos there are TOO MANY decent long-tail golf KWs to research! I'm a genious!! lol lol lol

PS I could always just include a price comparison iframe in my page to convert these 'golf club set' type KWs but i imagine the clicks dont sell for much, like adsense, i can incorporate but noit rely on, i think. also there is something that G doesnt like iframes and aff links so id need to be careful to only have them on a money page which im not trying to get ranked. (The idea is to get lots of other sites to rank, and for them to point at a site that hosts ur affiliate offers :D)

RIGHT, LETS FIND SOMETHING TO MONETIZE WITH!

Content Structure

OK! so i type 'golf' in to google.COM and it tells me the following golf suggestions which i write down:

clubs
games
direct
bidder
breaks
monthly
equipment
shoes
clothes
gti

now, GTI is a car, direct and bidder are shops that dont have affiliate programs and are at the top of the results and im not gonna top them so bye-bye. Clubs prob sell on the net so lets type in golf club and Google Suggests:

golf clubs for sale
golf club sets
golf clubs surrey
golf clubs uk
golf club grips
gold clubs in essex
golf clubs in kent
golf club distances

1.So i type the 1st one in, phrase match, UK results only. So, for
"golf clubs for sale" i get 3880 pages competing. some are vivastreet and gumtree ads, so im thinking put an ad in them and i'll compete!

I search: intitle="golf clubs for sale" which SHOULD tell me if there are any page titles with that exact phrase in them. it says 0 which is GREAT. However, i can see one myself, look at the screenshot! (once jing installs...)
OK i got it, do it with a colon: intitle:"golf clubs for sale". This returns 5000 matches!! more than the no. of competing pages!? hmm :(

No rich media in the serps so maybe a vid and some pics would go down well with G?

Adwords KW tool tells me volume of 33000, shaweet! Monthly and global figures are different which suggest seasonal trending so lets go to google trends... http://www.google.com/trends?q=golf+clubs+for+sale

We see now is as good as it gets for this term. Summer is historically popular, and 2009 is crazy popular! wtf, whatever!

Lets try another :)

2. Golf club sets phrase match in G, UK results (i always search this way) gives us 9000 pages... hmmm... volume is 300k and 15k intitle: OUCH!
TOO BROAD

Google related searches will help us niche this up:

Choose a niche

For the challenge ive got to choose from 1 of 36 niches. All will have others competing on them, all will be monetizable, if only through adsense. So, what are we looking for?

1. Lots of monetizable KW phrases with high volume and low competition (shyeah...)
2. Good clickbank or affiliate programs to monetize well.

I'm not a golfer but golf sticks out so i do a 5min research on it LIKE THIS:

A) i type in golf, and as i do, Google suggest gives me ideas as to what people who start typing in Golf are looking for. I click options on the top left of the Google SERPS and pick 'related'. This leads me more ideas such as 'ladies golf clubs' and clicking on that i get to:

"ladies ping golf clubs"
only 8 competitors for that exact phrase :D

B) i check volume on Adwords external KW tool and that phrase is searched for 2400 times per month. That'll do.

C) I'll repeat this now to get a list of long tail keyphrases to use as blog topics/titles/heading/pages....

Twitter

Never got the whole twitter thing, seemed like a massive waste of time to twitter everything u do... so now im giving it a go! @mikeyrocks if u want to follow my every step... :D

Bio

OK, Ive had many jobs, but in 2006 i left my work as a financial advisor as my single white label mobile phone site was earning more through PPC than i was slogging my guts out til midnight selling investments and pensions!

The going was good, too good. Other online stuff didnt work out for me. i dipped back in to employment, then back to IM. I've been living in Canada, skiing every day and ignoring my business again so now im back at home, trying to repair my balance sheet with a new IM push and along came this challenge!

It's made me realise how completely Web1.0 ive been living! Stone age! This will be a 24 hr baptism of fire. Already my eyes are opened by this, hopefully this blog will document the journey from idea to PROFIT, for all to see :) If your like me ur reading when u should be writing! The plan here is NOT to get over ambitious and outsource/automate/find the perfect scalable solution but to just do all the work myself for 8hrs and get some RESULTS!

Becomaing an Internet Marketer!

A very warm welcome to all readers!

OK - its 5pm GMT on the 8th July and im about to start my journey in Web2.0 Marketing, prompted by Howie's challenge at IMRemarkable: http://www.imremarkable.com!

BUT - the challenge ends tommorrow so it doesnt look like im going to win, ie, to have the most detailed report of what marketing ive conducted, logged on this blog and my twitter account, @mikeyrocks

SO - watch, learn, cheer and weep at my efforts. I'm sure to learn a lot... and so are you im sure!
